Garfield, 28, was also daunting because his crime buster character is well-loved by so many moviegoers around the world.
Garfield caught the eye of movie fans when he portrayed the role of Facebook's creator, Marc Zuckerberg's best friend in "The Social Network".
Also stars in The Amazing Spider-man are Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans and Kirsten Dunst. Marc Webb directs the film.
